This project follows the journey of a New York man who rediscovers his passion for sailing. I shot on Richard Gale Optics for anamorphic visuals, which lended itself to cinematic cinematography.
We spanned Ohio and New York for the perfect look, shooting the water sequence on Lake Ontario in New York. Water cinematography is always a challenge, but we were able to capture the heartfelt story with an underwater housing. I believe the tools of cinematography should always support the story and not get in the way. I’m really proud of this simple, yet heartfelt project.
I used the Richard Gale Optiks Trump38 and Trump58 for an anamorphic look. They are rehoused Russian Hellos 58mm lenses that have an oval aperture disk in the back that can be swapped out per aperture.
We did a few different hard-mount GoPro shots.
