Director of Photography
The director wanted the audience to feel the character’s transformation journey from chaos to rest, highlighting the success of the product. I knew the pacing of the edit and music would play into this, but I wanted to enhance it with the cinematography.
So I created a visual arc to the composition. For the beginning lifestyle scenes, I chose to be handheld, mimicking a hectic life. Once the character interacted with the product, I kept the camera planted with little movement. The lifestyle cinematography brings the audience into her experience and helps promote the benefits of the product.
The lifestyle cinematography in this project won gold in the AVA Digital Awards.
As an operator, I often find the most uncomfortable positions tend to create the best shot and compelling lifestyle cinematography.
Filters are a way I enhance lifestyle cinematography for each shot. I often use ND grads to darken a part of the frame, highlighting the product or talent.
